The closure of Navan's oldest business Spicers Bakery which first opened its doors 178 years ago has sparked the sale of one of the best development land opportunities in Co Meath.
Estate agents Lisney and Smith Harrington have been approved by the receivers following the collapse of the Spicer family business to sell the grounds surrounding the period house owned by the family just outside the town fronting onto Academy Street.
The site is approximately 44 acres and could accommodate up to 400 houses. With a low guide price of €4.5 million the site is expected to sell for more with the proposed redevelopment of the Navan train service amongst other benefits.
It's very sad to see such a long established business close. Navan has lost a lot of its manufacturing prowess over the last few years.
