"Walk in their Footsteps" retracing the steps of the Maynooth 15 to the GPO, Dublin, Easter Monday 1916.

The Maynooth 15 walk takes place on Saturday 23rd April at 11.30am, re-enacting the original walk, starting at the Maynooth College gates, having received a blessing from the College Monsignor, the St. Mary's Brass and Reed band will lead the walkers to the harbour where one of the descendants of the Maynooth 15 will wave a flag to commence the walk. The walk will consist of a stroll along the banks of the Royal Canal with a distance of approx 15 miles to the GPO, which should take about 4.5 to 5 hours to complete. There will be 2/3 watering stations along the route and the walk will be shadowed along the nearest roads by a minibus to cater for any eventualities. Once at Cross Guns Bridge, the walkers will be escorted along Dorset Street by An Garda Siochána and down Frederick Street to the Garden of Remembrance where the last water station will be.

On arrival at the G.P.O., the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Críona Ní Dhálaigh will greet the “Walkers" using the words Padraig Pearse greeted the Maynooth 15 by saying "Your actions in marching from Kildare, even if you do no more in the Rebellion, will gain you a place in history".

This walk will be a sponsored fund raising event (not compulsory), Sponsor cards will be available in the Community Council office & the Library. The top 3 sponsor card amounts will receive a 13 inch Commemoration Cuchallain plaque (See image) with a 4th being raffled among the remaining card holders. Cards can be posted on request.
