The N55 between Edgeworthstown and Ballymahon will be temporarily closed for a continuous 2 week period (to be determined) for 24 hours a day during the period Monday, 11 April 2016 to Friday, 3 June 2016. Specific dates of closure will be advertised here 10 days in advance of closure.

The road is being closed to facilitate Bridge Rehabilitation works on the N55 at Fowlards Bridge, Ballymahon.

Local Access will be maintained at all times.

Alternative Routes:

Edgeworthstown to Ballymahon:

Divert at Edgeworthstown via the N4 to Longford, continue on N4 and then N5 Longford Bypassto Ballyminion Roundabout. Take L1175 and L1176 through Flancare Industrial Estate, then N63 towards Lanesborough taking left at Ballymacormick onto R397, via Keenagh, to R392 then onto Ballymahon.

Ballymahon to Edgworthstown:

Divert at Ballymahon to R392 towards Lanesborough. Take right onto R397 to Longford via Keenagh. At Ballymacormick take N63 towards Longford and then the L1176 through Flancare Industrial Estate and L1175 to the N5 Ballyminion Roundabout. Follow N5 (Dublin bound) to N4 (Dublin bound) and onwards to Edgeworthstown.


Any Person wishing to make a submission in relation to the proposed temporary road closure must lodge their submission, in writing, with Evelyn Wright, Senior Executive Officer, Roads, Transportation and Public Safety, Kildare County Council (who are acting on behalf of Longford Co Co), Áras Chill Dara, Devoy Park, Naas, Co.
