The 24 year old man who was arrested and detained at Longford Garda Station is due to appear in Mullingar District Court this morning at 10.30am charged in connection with the fatal stabbing.

Gardaí arrested a 24 year old man in connection with the investigation into a fatal stabbing that occurred in the Great Water Street area of Longford on Tuesday 1st November 2016 at approximately 11.50am.

The man was arrested in the Longford area is detained at Longford Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

A man, believed to be in his early 30's was discovered with chest wounds. He was removed to Mullingar Hospital where he was pronounced dead this afternoon. The scene was preserved and technically examined.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have been in the Great Water Street/Rue Noyal Chetillon Street/ or the area of the shopping centre between 11.30am and 12noon today to contact Gardaí at Longford on 043-3350570, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
