Enniscorthy State Commemoration - Easter Monday, 29th March 2016

The event commences with 10am Mass at St. Aidan's Cathedral, Enniscorthy, followed by a parade which will commence outside the Cathedral and will depart at approximately 11.30am. The Parade will pause outside the Atheneum, Castle Street for a minutes silence and then proceed to the Seamus Rafter Statue in Abbey Square.

The State Commemoration Ceremony will take place in Abbey Square, Enniscorthy. Music will be played on site from 11am with the Ceremony commencing at 12.30pm.

A battle re-enactment will take place in the Abbey Square Car park at 2.30pm for approximately 45mins.

A Promenade Festival will also taking place consisting of market stalls including local artisan suppliers and vintage fairground rides. There will be seating and local entertainment. This event will commence at 11am and is expected to conclude at 7pm approximately.


• Attendees are advised to come early as large crowds are expected.

• Check the weather and dress appropriately.

• Mind your belongings

• It is illegal to drink alcohol in a public place in Enniscorthy.

• Please follow signage and all directions from Stewards and Gardaí

• Keep children under close supervision. Children should have phone numbers for their guardians in the event of accidental separation. (eg: write it on their clothing tags, their arm or a piece of paper and tell them where it is!)


Traffic Plan – Road Closures:

In order to facilitate the large volume of visitors to the area, regardless of whether they are attending the event, the following Road Closures will be in operation:

N11 – Seamus Rafter Bridge – N30 bound lane only

6am – 5pm

The Entire N11 circuit over both bridges, Abbey Quay and Shannon Quay will be closed for a 20minute period for Official State Ceremony

1.10pm – 1.30pm

N30 – Abbey Square (both sides) from Seamus Rafter Bridge to and including, Castle Hil roundabout

6am – 5pm

N30 – Mill Park Road, from its junction with R890 Parnell Road (known locally as Arnolds Cross) to its junction with Castle Hill Roundabout / Abbey Square (Local and emergency access will be maintained as far as junction with Mill Yard Lane & Friary Hill.

Traffic Plan – Diversions

In order to facilitate the large volume of visitors to the area, regardless of whether they are attending the event, the following traffic diversions will be in operation (map attached on the right):-

Traffic Routes / Diversions - Northbound:

Wexford – Dublin Traffic continues as usual along N11. (Advance warning signs will be located at Kyle Cross to encourage Dublin traffic to use R741 via Castlebrige).

Any traffic not specifically travelling to Enniscorthy for the State Celebration is encouraged to utilise the R741 (Wexford – Gorey Road) or divert at Maldron Roundabout, Wexford for New Ross.

Traffic from Wexford direction heading to New Ross will be diverted at the Seamus Rafter Bridge out along the N11 to Blackstoops roundabout and back via the R890 to Arnolds Cross to access the N30.

Traffic Routes / Diversions - Southbound:

Dublin – Wexford Traffic continues as normal along the N11.

Any Wexford traffic not specifically travelling to Enniscorthy for the State Celebration is encouraged to utilise the R741 (Gorey – Wexford Road) by exiting the M11 at junction 23.

Traffic heading for New Ross should continue to Enniscorthy where it will be diverted from Blackstoops roundabout along the R890 to Arnolds Cross and onto the N30.

Bus routes will be maintained but may be subject to delays.

Emergency Routes:

Emergency routes will be maintained along the N890 (Arnolds Cross – Blackstoops Roundabout) & the N11.

Emergency access to Abbey Square, Abbey Square Car Park and the Promenade will be maintained along Mill Park Road / N30.

Emergency access to the Medical Health Centre, Mill Yard Lane, will be maintained for Caredoc services and accessed from Arnolds Cross.


Parking:

All Wexford County Council parking will be free on Monday, 28th March 2016. However Parking restrictions will be in place and will be enforced by An Garda Siochana and Traffic Wardens on duty.

Parking for the holders of the Blue Disabled Parking Badges will be available in Slaney Place, the AIB car park, Slaney Place, & the extension of Slaney Place to Xtravision. Blue Disabled Parking badges must be displayed.
