24 year old Joshua Molloy who was arrested in Iraq with two other Britons for allegedly serving YPG, a Kurdish group against ISIS grew up in Ballylynan on the Laois Kildare border and went to Ardscoil na Trínóide in Athy.
He was arrested in Iraq on Friday with two other Britons as they were making their way from Syria.
The Department of Foreign affairs in Dublin said it was aware of the case however it will be the British consulate who will deal with the case.
Joshua had served with the British Army before traveling to Syria to fight against ISIS with the YPG.
