Have you ever wanted to write but were uncertain how to begin? Or have you already started writing but are uncertain how to proceed? Creative Writing for Beginners will guide you through the process of writing in a friendly and supportive way. Individual feedback & guidance will be offered by the instructor.

Topics covered will include: Getting started, ideas & first drafts, editing & revising. In fiction we will explore plot development, characterisation, setting, dialogue, & scene. In poetry we will discuss rhyme & rhythm, the importance of line and verse, image & metaphor etc.

Instructor: Gerard Beirne holds an MFA in Creative Writing (EWU, USA) and has been teaching writing for 25 years. His first novel was shortlisted for The Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award and his recent collection of stories for The Danuta Gleed Literary Award 2015. He was shortlisted for the 2016 BGE Irish Book Awards.
