Tesco Extra Maynooth Store (http://www.tesco.com/store-locator/ie/?bID=5790) has been designated in the North Kildare region to take part in this project for people in need. Smaller Tesco Express stores will not be participating.

This year's appeal is aiming to provide hampers of non-perishable food to as many families in need as possible in the run-up to Christmas. In addition Tesco Ireland has also again agreed to donate €10,000 Euro to Lions Clubs of Ireland for Lions voluntary work at Christmas in supporting the less well off.

During the two day appeal, customers visiting their Tesco Extra Maynooth store will be handed a 'shopping list' by Lions Club and Tesco volunteers that suggests non-perishable food items. This 'shopping list' with suggested food items, which includes everything from tea bags and instant coffee, to breakfast cereals, tinned food and even festive essentials like selection boxes and Christmas cake, will be available as a guide to Tesco customers during the appeal.

Maynooth Kilcock Lions Club president, Arthur O Hara commented, “Having seen the difference these food hampers can make to families, we are determined to collect even more this year so that we can reach as many people as possible and give them a little help this Christmas." Anyone wishing to volunteer over the two days will be welcome.

“Every item really does go a long way, so please pop in and donate what you can."

All food collected in the Lions Club trolleys at the entrance to each store will be sorted by volunteers and used to make food hampers for people struggling to provide for themselves and their families.

Lions Club International, a voluntary service organisation made up of local people from all walks of life coordinates a wide range of projects and supports local people in need in their communities, where every cent raised by charitable means will go to the project, has 113 clubs spread throughout the country.

Nobody gets paid in Lions! Volunteers across Ireland will give their time to collect, pack and distribute the food to those in need.

To support the Christmas Food Appeal and help families through the Christmas period, please visit your local store in Maynooth on Friday 25th or Saturday 26th November and make a donation – Every Little Helps!

Maynooth Kilcock Lions Club wish to acknowledge and thank everyone associated with our very successful two-day Lions/Tesco Christmas Food Appeal in Tesco Extra Store Maynooth on yesterday and Friday.

Once again we witnessed the incredible big-hearted kindness, caring and the giving characteristics of the people of Ireland. Thank you very much.

A very big thank you also to the exceptional management and staff of Tesco Extra Store, Maynooth for their 5-star assistance and total commitment on two very busy shopping days in a store that has everything.

To all of our friends and colleagues who manned the entrance to the store and engaged with shoppers entering the store.

Rest assured all of the items donated in our trolleys will go to a very worthy cause - those in need in the locality, at this festive time of the year.

Sincerely in Lionism
