Windy for a time tonight. Dry in eastern areas at first, but the heavy rain in western areas will become widespread after midnight. The southerly winds will continue strong and gusty for a time, but will moderate towards dawn. Lowest temperatures 4 to 8 C.

Saturday

Tomorrow, Saturday, will start overcast and wet in many places, especially the eastern half of the country, with the rain, heavy or thundery at times, with some spot flooding. But more showery weather, with occasional bright or short sunny spells, in western areas in the morning, will extend to all areas for the afternoon and evening. But some of these showers will be heavy with some thundery downpours. Cooler than today, with top temperatures of around 9 to 11 C. Winds will be mostly moderate to fresh, but will strengthen later in the day, especially in some coastal areas.
